HISTORY

The Coast Guard Public School was established in the year 1993 where-in-the foundation stone was laid by the then Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), IG YP Malik, PTM on 20 Sep 1993. The School was initially housed at the CGAS hangar and in year 1995, it was shifted to the present CGPS premises with only the ground floor constructed at that point of time. The first floor was completed in the year 1999 and the second floor in the year 2002. The constitution of School Bye-Laws and the Management Committee was formulated in the year 1997 and in the same year the school was granted affiliation for classes XI & XII from CBSE. The School completed its 25 Years of Excellence in Education and celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 2018. The Kindergarten Section was shifted from its existing location i.e Devka Road Marwad to the Kala Vitaan Building in the Main School from the session 2018-19.

SCHOOL RECOGNITION AND AFFILIATION

The School since its inception has made many strides in field of Education proving its Motto “Education for Excellence”. CGPS is a Co-Educational Institution recognized as an Unaided School” by the Directorate of Education, Administration of Daman & Diu and is affiliated to CBSE for All India Secondary School Certificate (Class X) and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII). The School has acquired affiliation with CBSE. The school has been the centre for conduct of CBSE Exam for students of Daman. The School presently has strength of 1590 students and has classes from Nursery to standard XII in Science, Commerce and Arts stream. The school has sought the affiliation of subjects for the Art stream in the academic session 2017-18 and the first batch of the Class XII Arts appeared in the year 2018-19. The School has been nominated by CBSE New Delhi as centre of Prestigious JEE, NEET and CTET exams.

ACADEMIC FACILITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE

The School main building presently houses 38 classrooms in addition to the under mentioned facilities.

(a) Science Laboratories. The School has three well equipped laboratories for Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

(b) Computer Laboratory. Computer Literacy Programme is conducted for students from Standard I to XII. The School lays special emphasis on imparting computer education to students. The laboratory presently accommodates 42 PCs with server of the latest Pentium IV Processor.

(c) Design and Technology: (D&T) laboratory has been set up in the year 2013. Children of class 4-8 attend to the D&T lab wherein the students assemble the projects and enhance their practical knowledge.

(d) Mathematics Laboratory: Mathematics laboratory has been setup to teach the students in a more practical manner. The Lab showcases different models and provides children to understand Maths in playful manner.

(e) Auditorium. The school has a make shift indoor Auditorium on the first floor. All kinds of house activities, functions, lecturers etc are conducted in this Hall. The Auditorium has recently been renovated facilitating the students the most equipped environment. It has a seating capacity of around 400 students.

(f) Sports. Special emphasis is laid on all-round development of students. The school has a cricket pitch, football, volley ball, basketball and lawn tennis court with adequate sports gears to facilitate sports as a hobby. Annual sports day for both CGPS and CGKG are generally celebrated during the month of January.

(g) National Cadet Corps (NCC). The School is affiliated to NCC Air Wing Baroda. First batch of NCC comprising of 25 students passed out in the year 2009. The present strength is 50, Mr. Jignesh Patel PET is the ANO. Every year NCC cadets participate at the NCC camp at the decided venue and bring home many prizes in different competitions.

(h) Sea Cadet Corps (SCC). SCC (Daman) was commissioned on 13 Dec 2000. The present strength of SCC (Daman) is 35. The cadets belong to CGPS and other schools of Daman. The classes on parade training, corps and sea knowledge, basic seamanship, communication, etc are imparted to the cadets in the school. The SCC includes children from the other local schools too. Classes are being conducted by the air station at Nursery section Marwad.

(i) Yoga. With an aim to provide a “Healthy mind in a Healthy body” a time table is planned for classes 1 to 12. The venue for the session is the multi utility hall “Tennis Court”. The International Yoga Day 21 Jun every year is celebrated in the School.

(j) Infirmary: To facilitate to the occasional illhealth of the students the school has set up an infirmary with two beds and a trained nurse to take care of the students and give them immediate relief.

(k) Activity Room: An activity room is located on the ground floor of the Main building. This room is a play / Audiovisual room for the Kindergarten students. The children have one period a day scheduled in their time table for the activity room.

(l) Tennis Court (Multi Utility Hall): Tennis Court has been recently modified so that it can be used as a multi utility hall for different activities and competitions organised in the school. This hall is also used to conduct daily prayer and assembly in the rainy weathers. Activity Block (Kala Vitaan). With an aim to enhance the all-round development of the students, an Activity block named “Kala Vitaan“ has been constructed and inaugurated on 28 Nov 2011. This has been conceptualized to provide activities oriented teaching where learning becomes fun and an enriching experience. It houses the following -

(a) Art Room & Kumbh Shala. School provides the students with facilities to develop interest towards creative arts like painting, pottery, clay modeling, sculpture making, pottery making with a furnace etc. There is a dedicated art room and a pottery space with competent staff for the same.

(b) Music Room. The room has been equipped with diverse range of musical instruments of both western and Indian types with well qualified staff. The efforts of the staff and the students have brought many laurels to the school in this field. A school band has also been raised in house.

(c) Library. School possesses a well stocked library with books on various /diverse subjects. Regular subscription for periodicals and magazine is also carried out. The library houses over 14578 books in various fields of study. Additional books are being purchased in a phased manner when ever requirement is felt.

(d) Computer Lab: Computer Lab is equipped with core i5 – 5th Generation with 40 monitors, a projector, projection screen, web cam, head phones and speaker.

(e) Kindergarten Section (LKG & UKG) : Three sections of each LKG and UKG classes are located on the ground and first floor.

As regular routine is followed for all Saturdays, 2nd Saturday for every month is compensated as holiday.
